Why go “green?”
- Indoor Air Quality: Indoor air pollutants are a silent threat, often two to five times higher than outdoor-pollutant levels. There is growing concern about the harmful effects of formaldehyde vapors, volatile organic compounds, hazardous air pollutants, and heavy metals. These harmful irritants are found in traditional solvent-based finishing materials.
- Low-Emitting Materials: When formaldehyde is present in the air at or above 0.1 parts per million, acute health effects can occur, including: watery eyes; burning sensations in the eyes, nose and throat; nausea; coughing; chest tightness; wheezing; skin rashes; or, if neglected, even more severe ailments.
- Corporate Responsibility: Partnerships with third-party green-accrediting organizations are critical. The Forestry Stewardship Council lends credibility and ensures accountability regarding a manufacturer's commitment to environmentally responsible forestry practices.
