Framingham,
MA Project
When Ann
& Sean sat down with us their number one priority was to open
up the first floor plan. The existing space, which housed the
kitchen & sitting area, was fairly sizable, but could be made
to feel much larger with some modifications. They also wanted
to make their dining room more accessible. Another desire was
to completely change not only the look, but also the feel of the
kitchen, making it a warmer, more inviting space, with higher
grade appliances.
What developed
from that and subsequent meetings were several changes to the
existing floor plan. The elimination of a small hallway, as well
as the partial removal of the wall between the dining room and
kitchen opened up the space dramatically. Aiding that feeling
was an added bump-out where a small window was removed & replaced
with a much larger one. This enabled the client to place a sofa
recessed into the space. The warmer look and traditional design
was accomplished with a raised panel door in Cherry wood, incorporating
several mullioned glass doors with beadboard on the back of the
island and a decorative moulded baseboard to finish it off. The
front foyer closet was reconfigured to eliminate a conflict between
the front door and its door, as well as to use the space more
effectively and allow for a larger opening into the adjacent family
room.
